COOLmob's Sustainable Apartments Project
Would you like to be a part o
f COOLmob's exciting new Sustainable Apartments Project?
The Sustainable Apartments project is part of COOLmob's 'Building Low Carbon Communities' initiative. It is aimed at improving the overall environmental performance of apartment blocks and flats in Darwin.

Why is this important?
The
rapidly expanding population of the Top End means that residential development has favoured high density, apartment style living. Apartment blocks are often very energy and water intensive. A lot of the time Body Corporate fees are equal to, or are even greater than, your personal Power and Water bills.
The rising price of electricity and water means that people will be hit with higher energy/water bills and for some, strata levies too. By becoming more energy/water efficient in your home means more money in your pocket as utility prices increase.
How will it work?
- COOLmob will work with individual residents (through Sustainability Household Assessments) to see where energy/water reductions can be made in individual apartments
- We will also work with a group of residents and the Body Corporate to assess the energy/water efficiency of common areas
- Recommendations will be made to both individual residents and the Body Corporate on ideas for reducing energy/water consumption. COOLmob will also offer a number of activities and free guidance throughout the program.
What will you achieve through participating?
By participating in this project you will:
- Reduce power and water bills for your own home
- Improve environmental performance of the whole building
- Improve the living conditions of the entire apartment block
- Become a leader in creating low carbon communities.
The concept of ‘Sustainable Apartments’ is a new one nationally. Similar projects currently carried out in Sydney and Melbourne are proving very successful, with savings made at both the apartment and building level.
