What is Sustainable House Day?

Sustainable House Day is very popular in the Top End! It is an annual event that opens the doors to some of area's most environmentally progressive homes to inspire and educate the public about sustainable living practices. From innovative design to cutting-edge technology, attendees have the opportunity to witness firsthand how homeowners are reducing their environmental footprint while enhancing their quality of life.

Thermal Comfort Forum at the Botanic Gardens - 2.00pm - 4.00pm

Cap off Sustainable House Day with our exclusive Thermal Comfort Forum at the Botanic Gardens. Our esteemed panel, including special guests from Wilya Janta, an Aboriginal non-for-profit consultancy specializing in Indigenous housing, will share invaluable insights on achieving optimal thermal comfort in tropical homes.

What is the problem that Wilya Janta are trying to solve?

Wilya Janta are designing and building display homes. They are the first ever display homes designed by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people. The results will be beautiful, functional, culturally safe, thermally efficient, off-grid, climate resilient housing that maintains a connection between the built environment, the community, and the natural surroundings.

Who else will be hearing from?

  • CSIRO, Darwin Living Lab
  • Local building designers
  • Local builders
  • Local Architects

You will need to RSVP to our Thermal Comfort Forum

Empowering Change

As the Northern Territory gears up for its upcoming election, COOLmob is calling on all candidates to make an 'energy efficiency pledge' aimed at raising the bar for energy efficiency housing standards. Our asks are simple yet impactful:

  1. Raise the minimum star rating for homes: Ensuring that new constructions meet higher energy efficiency standards, setting a new benchmark for sustainable living.
  2. Introduce minimum standards for energy efficiency in rental properties: Empowering renters with the assurance of energy-efficient homes, reducing energy bills and carbon emissions across the board.

Be the Change:
Join us on Sustainable House Day and be a part of the movement towards a more resilient, fair and safe future. Together, we can build homes that not only protect our planet but also nurture our well-being, cultural needs and provide a safe place to escape the heat.
