Local Food Challenge: Okra Cooking Class
SATURDAY 12 SEP 2020 | 2:00PM - 4PM
GULP NT and COOLmob bring you this event as part of the Top End Local Food Challenge.
We bet you're familiar with the sight of okra at the Rapid Creek markets, but do you know how to cook with it? This small green tropical vegetable grows year-round in Darwin, and is sure to be a staple during the local food challenge!
Join us for an afternoon getting familiar with 3 different ways to cook and enjoy this vegetable with Dr Kamal Melvani, a Sri Lankan researcher at CDU who specialises in food security and forest farming. Kamal will share her story, what drives her research and passion in local food production and regenerative agriculture; both of which are the basis of any thriving local food system.
Kamal will be teaching us to make Indian-style sautéed okra, Sri Lankan stir-fried okra and okra marinated in yoghurt, a dish from North India, using locally grown produce, which we will share together.
