Open House - Wavertree - Sustainable House Day

COOLmob is excited to open the Wavertree House as part of Sustainable House Day 2020. 

Join us for a morning tour with owners Andrew and Helen Spiers, who designed this house using passive design elements that have proved to be appropriate for living in the wet-dry tropics.

The Wavertree house features as a case study in Your Home: Australia's guide to environmentally sustainable homes (5th edition), as an example of a passive home appropriately designed for climate. 

The Wavertree house features high air-flow, low thermal mass, high reflectivity, air-gap insulation in walls and roof, off-grid solar electricity, rainwater harvesting and biolytix sewage treatment. The main living areas are elevated to catch the prevailing breezes and the house is oriented to optimise that in combination with least sun exposure of walls and roof. The roof is high-pitched to reduce heat absorption from the sun and protect against lift from cyclonic wind speeds.

The house is open from 8.30am to 11am, with two guided tours, at 8.45am and 9.30am to stagger arrivals for adequate parking. Once you've purchased your ticket we will be in touch with you to book you in for your preferred tour time. 

Getting there

Address will be provided once booked. We encourage car-pooling for this event for reduced transport carbon emissions and as there is limited parking availability. If you would like your details shared with other attendees also looking to carpool, please email Lou. 

Morning tea provided

BYO coffee cup and water bottle and head to the morning tea table for a cuppa, water and bite to eat.  

Funds raised go towards COOLmob, allowing them to run more events like this.
